Some of the most important visual artists in Argentina starred this year the Rossi Foundation campaign, “Woman’s Hands”committed to the fight against breast cancer. October 19 is the international day dedicated to the prevention of this type of cancer, which, detected early, has a 95 percent chance of cure.

“The beauty of taking care of ourselves” is the title of this year’s campaign and they star women who dedicated their lives to creation. Each of them worked with a well-known photographer, with two slogans: the use of pink, the emblematic color of the fight against breast cancer, and the production of an image based on the idea of art as a force of expression and freedom. Because this campaign aims not only to alert women to avoid the disease, but also to be a support for those who go through it.

“The hands of these women represent the hands of all women, seeking to mobilize consciousness and forming the idea that each one is unique and unrepeatable, that they can be differentiated from others by their activity, or by their personal characteristics, but that in the face of the possibility of contracting breast cancer, they are equal to all,” explains Agustina Rossi, director of the Rossi Foundation and the “The beauty of taking care of ourselves” campaign.

Karina El Azem

“Every year we look for a new way to talk about care. In this edition, we choose art as a language, because there is no gesture more beautiful or more powerful than taking care of yourself. This campaign is an invitation to stop, look at ourselves and understand that taking care of yourself is also a way of loving. Because in each work, in each portrait, the beauty of being alive beats,” says María Claudia Pedrayes, producer of the campaign.

Matilde Marin

The participants

With one of her works as a backdrop, the artist Adriana Bustos was photographed by the Uruguayan Bruno Nogueira. Amalia Amoedo and Federico de Bartolo chose the intimacy of the workshop and the precise moment of creation to produce their image. Silvina Benguria posed with one of her paintings in the photo of Alejandro Palacios. Delia Cancela alluded to feminine sensuality with a work created on her body and photographed by Tadeo Jones. Nicola Costantino played with pink in a bouquet of flowers and a jar of paint with the background of one of her sculptures inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s “The Garden of Earthly Delights.” The image was captured by Alejandro Calderone Caviglia.

Febe Defelipe bathed her hands in the color of the slogan, creating a strong contrast with her clothing, in the portrait of Matías Salgado. Karina El Azem repeated her image on a landscape of green and water in the photographic work of Marcelo Cepeda. Jacinta Grondona wrapped herself in white and pink fabrics in the portrait of Ioanna Menéndez. A brush soaked in pink accompanied the shot of Graciela “Gachi” Jaspers made by Lucía Bonells.

Liliana Porter

Pink hands on a black background marked the silhouette of Matilde Marín in the photo by Claudio Larrea. A classic figure from the work of Liliana Porter in the artist’s hand was her always cheerful contribution in the image taken by Jarret Christian. The same photographer portrayed Ana Tiscornia by drawing a pink line in one of his paintings. Jessica Trosman with a halo around one of her eyes posed next to her work in the photo by Matín Pisotti. Paola Vega hid among her paintings photographed by Martín Traynor. Dressed in the tone of the slogan, Paula Cahen D’Anvers posed for Christian Beliera’s camera.
