A number of times FC Volendam conceded a quick goal, but against FC Utrecht it was the superior party. “We did more than well in the first half,” said defender Mawouna Amevor.

Tipping point

The audience in the Galgenwaard started grumbling and whistling and noticed that FC Volendam had a lot of control over the match. However, after the break there was nothing left of it. “For me, that turning point is already at kick-off,” says Kruys.

Supported by the crowd, FC Utrecht attacked and that led to a quick equalizer from Adrian Blake. Souffian El Karouani gave the Domstedelingen the lead and Miguel Rodriguez decided the final score at 3-1.

“We can continue with this game, but at the moment Utrecht had a bad series and a double program. It looked like we could strike,” said Amevor. “It gives the citizens of Volendam courage how we play, but we have to keep it up,” says Kruys.
