FC Erzgebirge Aue experienced a sobering evening against SV Waldhof Mannheim on Friday. The Violets acted far too harmlessly against the Electoral Palatinate for long stretches to gain anything of note.
FC Erzgebirge Aue missed a chance in the 3rd league: The Violets missed the jump from 16th to 11th place in the table with a 0-2 defeat against SV Waldhof Mannheim at the start of the 11th matchday. The Härtel team also suffered their first defeat after three unbeaten encounters.
Aue runs after the deficit
The Saxons looked for a way forward from the start, but hardly found it. Mika Clausen’s 25-meter shot, which flew over, was the best offensive action for a long time (17th). Coach Härtel relied on diagonal passes against the guests’ diamond. However, they arrived too rarely. The fact that the violets often didn’t make it through gave the people of Mannheim courage. When Jonah Fabisch had the ball taken away in midfield, Erik Majetschak had to clear against Kenny Okpala at the last second. But the following corner was possible: defender Niklas Hoffmann maneuvered a corner from ex-Auer Ferati into the right corner (20th).
Aue fell behind after a corner through Niklas Hoffmann.
Only one FCE chance before the break
The FCE did not recover from the shock for a long time. Waldhof made the music here, Felix Lohkemper missed from the edge of the penalty area after preparation by Lukas Klünter. An FCE defender had to clear a Harakiri pass from the left (29′). Aue only got on level terms in the last ten minutes. Marvin Stefaniak had the best opportunity with a deflected shot that was parried by keeper Lucien Hawryluk (37′). Jens Härtel’s team, who seemed to be writing more and more in his notepad, still had to survive a moment of shock: Ferati hastily missed after an assist from the right (45th + 1). With the 0:1 Aue was still well served.
The second half didn’t exactly start out hopeful either. The Mannheimers had the first opportunities again: Lohkemper hit the five-pointer into the air (54th), Maresca failed from 18 meters to goalkeeper Martin Männel (63rd). Four minutes later the veteran was left behind. After a blocked ball, Ferati tried a volley – deflected into the left corner.
Behind: Aue’s Pascal Fallmann (right) against Mannheim’s Samuel Abifade.
Majetschak has two goals in mind
Only in the final phase did Aue really rear up. Defender Erik Majetschak failed twice after throw-ins from Ryan Malone (77th/88th). Goalkeeper Hawryluk saved once, then the ball went over. In stoppage time, Okpala left the score 3-0 twice, and once he hit the post with a follow-up shot. A few whistles were heard at the final whistle.
