The Adler Mannheim remain without a goal or a point for the first time this DEL season. The Schwenninger Wild Wings deserve their success across the board.
The Schwenninger Wild Wings won the DEL match against the Adler Mannheim 3-0 (0-0, 1-0, 2-0). Tyson Spink gave the guests the lead (23rd minute). Tylor Spink increased the score in the final third (51′), Zach Senyshyn added the lid (59′).
The roles before the opening bully were clearly assigned. The Eagles are at the top after a strong start, the Wild Wings are in the middle of the table with an almost even balance. Both teams hardly needed any start-up time. Tyson Spink provided the guests’ first dangerous shot, which keeper Maximilian Franzreb was able to parry. In direct response, Kris Bennett narrowly missed a long pass (3rd minute).
After the guests’ courageous start, the Eagles took command and increased the pressure. After eight minutes, Schwenningen’s Will Weber had to go to the penalty box for two minutes. The power play is one of Mannheim’s greatest strengths this season. But the Wild Wings survived being outnumbered and continued to stand up to the game until the end of the first third, also repeatedly setting pinpricks on offense. Mannheim, on the other hand, found it difficult to create big chances against the concentrated Wild Wings.
Spink gives Wild Wings the lead
Only a few seconds had been played in the second third when Mannheim’s previous top scorer Nicolas Mattinen had the best chance to take the lead, but keeper Joacim Eriksson parried from close range (21′). Shortly afterwards, when Yannick Proske was given two minutes, the Wild Wings had the majority for the first time. And the guests took advantage of this: Tyson Spink was released and chased the puck exactly into the left corner – 0:1.
Mannheim increased the pressure and Matthias Plachta scored. But the puck landed in Ericsson’s catching hand (25th). On the other hand, Alexander Karachun’s shot whizzed centimeters past the post (27th). After a good half hour, Justin Schütz had a great chance to make it 1-1, but Ericsson were able to steer the puck around the post. In return, Phil Hungerecker suddenly found himself in front of Franzreb because Mattinen had overlooked him. But the Adler keeper was able to save twice. At the end of the second third, the Eagles were able to increase the pressure again and got shots, but not an equalizer.
Tylor Spink also scores
Mannheim starts the final third with a lot of momentum, but coach Dallas Eakins’ team remains imprecise in reaching conclusions. Instead, Mannheim’s Eric Uba received a penalty for tripping, but the hosts survived unscathed (43′).
The guests remained the somewhat more dangerous team on offense, Mannheim continued to have a very difficult time against the stably defending Wild Wings. In the 51st minute the Wild Wings increased. After Mannheim lost the puck, Tylor Spink came to the goal and made it 2-0 from close range. A good four minutes before the end, the Eagles put everything on one card and took the keeper off the ice in order to have the advantage. This last measure was no longer successful. On the contrary: Zach Senyshyn made everything clear with his goal. Schwenningen celebrated a deserved away win thanks to a clear and intense performance.
Both teams will continue on Sunday. Then the Eagles will face the Grizzlys Wolfsburg at 2 p.m. Schwenningen welcomes ERC Ingolstadt (4:30 p.m.).
