The closure of a gas station next to the A16 near Hazeldonk on Thursday evening was due to the discovery of illegal fireworks in a car. This was discovered during a check, the police announced on Friday afternoon.
The officers also found a potentially explosive substance in the car. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service EOD was then called in. He examined the substance.
The gas station was closed for several hours for this purpose. It ultimately turned out to be a non-explosive substance, so the gas pump was released again.
Arrest
The driver of the car was initially arrested, but was allowed to leave after an investigation.
