“Athletes’ coaching and training grants will in future be directed to athletes who are already at the international top or who have a realistic prospect of getting there, in Olympic, para and non-Olympic sports.”

This is how the Ministry of Education and Culture informs.

In the future, there will be two grant size classes instead of the previous three. The large grant is 24,000 euros per year, the small grant is 12,000 euros. Previously, the grants were 20,000, 10,000 and 6,000 euros.

In the new model, the grant can be awarded at once for two years to “athletes who are already at the international top”.

The athlete grant is not awarded if the athlete’s annual income exceeds 60,000 euros. In the future, the income from the athlete’s business activities “can also be taken into account” in the assessment of the financial status.

Grants will continue to be tax-free.

The application for scholarships for athletes in summer sports opens on October 22.
