The Dane’s latest madness: he can’t drive, but buys his first car. And in the meantime he dreams of a shot in the Race
Holger Rune’s latest whim goes from zero to one hundred in a matter of seconds, and it’s not a first serve. The Dane himself confessed this in the press conference, shortly before making his debut in the 250 in Stockholm which sees him at the starting line as the number 1 seed. No, the latest purchase of the 2003 class has nothing to do with tennis: “I recently bought my first car. It’s a Porsche 911, I asked myself why not get it”. Yes, why not? A reason to do without it resided (or rather: did not reside, and still does not reside) in Holger’s wallet: the Dane does not have a driving license.

Curious, but true. Rune turned 22 on April 29th, but has not yet achieved the ability to drive independently. Yet the lure of fast cars captured him: “I recently got this Porsche 911, it’s the first one I’ve actually bought after winning several thanks to success in the Munich tournament. I saw Novak Djokovic driving it in Miami this year and I thought: ‘Wow, this car is really incredible!’. I still don’t know how to drive, though: I’ve just started the course, I’m taking some lessons” he told the number 11 in the world. A little more patience, therefore, before actually getting behind the wheel of the custom-built car.
the season of runes

Rune, on the pitch, is looking for another seasonal title after the good week in Barcelona, the one that led him to win the 500-point tournament in the final against Alcaraz. For the Dane, as always, a rollercoaster season: in the Slams he didn’t go beyond the fourth round and in the Masters 1000 he wasted more than one opportunity. At Indian Wells, for example, she lost in the final to Draper, while at Cincinnati and Shanghai she left the field open to the very surprised Atmane and Vacherot, losing in both cases in the quarter-finals. Now he will try a sharp one in the last tournaments of the year for a miraculous return to the Race, but the road seems very uphill.
