The former successful coach should now also bring his expertise to the German Football League. The DFL has put together a well-known committee – including the 58-year-old.
The German Football League (DFL) wants to position itself better in terms of sport in the coming years – and is relying on prominent support. With star coach Jürgen Klopp and world champion Sami Khedira, the league association is bringing experience from top international football into a newly created expert committee.
According to Thursday’s announcement, the aim of the merger is to pool competencies from clubs, leagues and external specialist knowledge. The group should identify future priorities in football development and develop an initial package of measures.
“We are convinced that the financial, legal and sporting framework must be in place in order to keep the federal leagues and German football consistently competitive,” said DFL managing director Marc Lenz. Internally, there have been recent discussions primarily about developments in the promotion of young talent. The new expert group should provide “valuable impulses” here.
Klopp and Khedira bring international experience from the best leagues in Europe. Andreas Bornemann (FC St. Pauli), Joti Chatzialexiou (1. FC Nürnberg) and Markus Krösche (Eintracht Frankfurt) are members of the expert group from the Football Commission, while Jochen Sauer (Bayern Munich) is there for the DFL Performance Centers Commission. The committee is completed by Lenz and DFB managing director Andreas Rettig, and further national and international experts will be brought in on specific topics.
The group is coordinated by Sebastian Zelichowski (DFL Director of Football Development) and Daniel Feld (Head of Youth and Performance Centers at the DFL). In terms of content, the focus is on the training and integration of talent as well as the further development of club standards and structures. The first results are expected to be presented in spring 2026.
In addition, a representative of the Football Commission will in future take part in the meetings of the DFL Presidium in an advisory capacity. Markus Krösche and Max Eberl (Bayern Munich) were named for this.
