Sad news from Hamburg: Bundesliga club FC St. Pauli has lost a long-time employee. Another German club is mourning.

FC St. Pauli mourns the loss of a long-time employee of the club museum. As the club announced via its channels on Thursday, Thomas Glöy has died. He was only 57 years old.

Glöy “not only documented the history and fan culture of FC St. Pauli, but helped shape and shape it over many years,” wrote the “Kiezkicker” on Instagram, among others. He died on Monday, it said. The club itself received the news on Wednesday.

“It is with deep sadness that we think of an extraordinary person, colleague and friend,” the people from Hamburg continued and then addressed the words directly to the deceased. “Dear Thomas: You’ll never walk alone! We will always miss you – and we feel for the many people who miss you as much as we do.”

According to the LinkedIn portal, Glöy has worked for the club museum for almost 13 years, initially on a voluntary basis and then as a freelancer. Since August 2021, he has been responsible for the archive, research and curatorship full-time.

In addition to FC St. Pauli, a second Bundesliga club also shared its sadness over Glöy’s death. SV Werder Bremen commented under the post: “From Osterdeich to the Elbe we send our deepest condolences.” The people of Bremen thanked Glöy “for the intensive discussions and the great exchange in the past”. They wished the relatives and friends of the deceased a lot of strength.
