Olise family
Bayern star once sorted out – his brother was not

Michael Olise is well on his way to becoming a superstar at FC Bayern. He was once sorted out at Chelsea – in complete contrast to his brother.
Michael Olise is a face of the future at FC Bayern. Since his move from the Premier League in the summer of 2024, the 23-year-old winger has not only met expectations in Munich, but exceeded them several times. 20 goals and 23 assists in 55 games last season, six goals in the current season: Olise impresses with his dribbling and makes even experienced Bayern officials rave.
“It’s just fun to watch him play football,” said sports director Max Eberl. President Herbert Hainer added: “A year ago he was still an unknown quantity – today the whole football world knows him.”
His career leap can also be expressed in numbers: The Munich team brought Olise from Crystal Palace for around 59 million euros, and he has now increased his market value from 100 million to 130 million euros, as the transfermarkt.de portal reports. A few years ago this would hardly have been possible.
As a teenager, Olise was rejected by two top English clubs: first Chelsea, then Manchester City. In the U14 he was not considered good enough at Stamford Bridge, and a year later he was kicked out of the “Cityzens” boarding school. A bitter setback for the son of a French-Algerian mother and a Nigerian father.
What seems like a grotesque mistake today – after all, Liverpool FC, Manchester City and Chelsea FC are currently chasing the offensive artist – was a key moment for Olise. Because he fought his way up through Reading FC and Crystal Palace and became a French international. But he is not the only professional in his family. His little brother Richard, unlike Olise, was able to forego the detour.
The 21-year-old right-back is currently in Chelsea FC’s U21 squad and has made it further than his brother, who is almost three years older. Because while Michael was sorted out as a teenager in London, Richard remained part of the top-class academy. He has been playing for the “Blues” since the U9, developed into an offensive full-back and particularly attracted attention in the 2024/25 season with a remarkable goal in the 6-0 win against Fulham.
His biggest milestone so far: being called up to the professional squad for the Conference League in December 2024, when Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca rotated in Astana. For Richard it was the first big stage in football.
Meanwhile, the current season is going slowly for Richard Olise. He has appeared four times in Premier League 2 so far, but has only ever been substituted for a few minutes (123 in total). Will he make the jump to the big teams like his brother? The future will show.
