Assen suddenly became world news at the beginning of this year. On the night of January 25, there was an explosion at the Drents Museum.
The burglars use sledgehammers to smash display cases and disappear within a few minutes with four golden masterpieces from Romania: Cotofenesti’s helmet and three bracelets. The insured value? Almost 6 million euros.
A few days later, the police arrested two main suspects: Douglas W. (36) and Bernhard Z. (35) from Heerhugowaard. The third main suspect, Jan B. (20), is only arrested later after an undercover operation. He allegedly admitted that he committed the robbery together with the others.
How did the suspects proceed during the robbery? What exactly did they steal? And why do the art treasures have such enormous value for Romania? You’ll see it in a new episode of Drenthe file.
Tomorrow is the last so-called pro forma hearing in the court in Assen. The matter will be dealt with substantively later.
