A soldier from the barracks in Havelte was killed last night during an exercise in Germany. It concerns a 28-year-old corporal of the first class.
The soldier was with 44 Armored Infantry Battalion, which is part of 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte.
The incident happened during the Ferocious Bison exercise in the vicinity of the Munster Süd training area in Germany. The Ministry of Defense states that it appears to be an accident. The Royal Military Police is investigating, supported by the German police.
Investigations have also been initiated by the Defense Safety Inspectorate and the Dutch Safety Board.
About 550 soldiers participated in the exercise, which has been running since September 30. The exercise was supposed to end today, but due to the death of the soldier this already happened yesterday.
