The Meilandjes are transfer-free after Christmas. The TV family is stopping Chateau Meiland, but according to Johnny de Mol they are mainly looking for a higher paycheck. Will RTL make a bid for the hystericas?
It was a big surprise on Sunday evening: SBS 6 star Martien Meiland and his family revealed to competitor RTL Boulevard that they are stopping their reality series Chateau Meiland. According to Johnny de Mol, the son of SBS owner John de Mol, they mainly say this to boost their market value.
Thunderclap
Luuk Ikink, the presenter of RTL Boulevard, thinks it’s all very strange. “It came as a bolt from the blue. Suddenly they stop doing it, but more than a million people are still watching it. In principle, they could also make a lot of money and continue for a long time,” he says in the show section.
Show expert Aran Bade: “Yes, they themselves say that it was never a driving force, the contract. SBS 6 was not involved in this decision at all. We were called: yes, can you come to the guest house, because we are going to announce that we are going to stop. SBS knew nothing, they quickly put out a statement.”
Will RTL make an offer?
The big question now is: will RTL make a bid for the Meilandjes? Channel boss Peter van der Vorst indicated in 2019 that he was jealous of their success at SBS 6. “If I am very honest: Chateau Meiland is of course a very nice program. We would have liked to have that.”
Aran: “We have asked RTL if they are interested. They are not going to respond to that now anyway, but you can bet that there will be a follow-up to this.”
