Slovakia can still hope for a final against the German national soccer team for a direct World Cup ticket. Coach Francesco Calzona’s team laboriously won their home game against Luxembourg 2-0 (0-0) on Monday and is level on points with leaders Germany (both 9) in Group A before the last two matchdays. Adam Obert (55th) and Ivan Schranz (72nd) scored.
Slovakia, who surprisingly beat the DFB team 2-0 at the start, suffered their first defeat on Friday in a 2-0 defeat in Northern Ireland. If Slovakia (at home against the Northern Irish) and Germany (in Luxembourg) win their penultimate games on November 14th, they will play the group winners in Leipzig three days later. Based on the direct comparison, a draw would be enough for Slovakia.
