At just 18 years old, Luke Littler has already won numerous important darts titles. Now he fails at the Youth World Cup – against a 21-year-old.
Darts world champion Luke Littler missed his next world title – and how. The 18-year-old, who had just won his first title at the World Grand Prix less than 24 hours earlier in Leicester against Luke Humphries (30), was surprisingly eliminated by his compatriot Beau Greaves in the semi-finals of the Youth World Championships in Wigan.
The youngest world champion in the history of darts lost to the 21-year-old Englishwoman 5:6. Greaves achieved something historic because she is the first woman to reach the final of a youth world championship (November 23rd) and will meet the Dutch defending champion Gian van Veen (23).
“I had two 10-darters, missed double 12 for a 9-darter and still couldn’t win,” Littler wrote on Instagram. He wished her good luck in the final. It had only recently been announced that Greaves would be only the second woman in PDC history to receive a tour card.
Littler only won the World Grand Prix for the first time on Sunday with a show of force. He gave the world number one and former world champion Humphries no chance at 6:1. He then confirmed his participation in the Youth World Cup. He just wanted to have a little fun and meet everyone.
He has now won the World Grand Prix, World Championship, World Matchplay, Premier League, UK Open, Grand Slam and World Series Finals. Of the most important individual major tournaments, the only ones missing are the World Masters, the European Darts Championships and the Players Championship Finals. Littler has only been playing on the professional tour since last year. He has also moved closer to world number one Humphries.
