Taylor Swift announced the six-part documentary series “The End of an Era” and an extended version of her concert film “Eras Tour” on “Good Morning America.” From December 12th, the musician will release the series exclusively on Disney+. Two episodes start on premiere day, the rest will follow weekly.
For the first time, Swift offers a behind-the-scenes look at her life during one of the most ambitious tours in pop history. The announcement was made on Monday – coincidentally, October 13th.
In an excerpt from the series, Swift can be seen after a show: too excited to go to sleep, she runs a bath, watches TV and signs 2,000 CDs until the adrenaline wears off.
Behind the scenes of the “Eras Tour”
Swift is combining a second publication with the documentary series. “The End of an Era” will be released alongside “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show”, an extended version of the concert film. When it was originally released during the tour, “The Tortured Poets Department” had not yet been released.
The album was later incorporated into the setlist recorded for this edition at the final show in Vancouver. “It was the end of an era and we knew it,” Swift wrote on Instagram.
“We wanted to preserve every moment leading up to the culmination of the most important and intense chapter of our lives. That’s why we allowed the filmmakers to capture that tour and all the stories that unfolded along it – and film the final show in its entirety.”
The end of an era – and a new chapter
Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran and Florence Welch appear in the concert film, as well as friends and family members who supported Swift during the long tour.
On Sunday, “Good Morning America” announced in a commercial that it would reveal “the next chapter” for Swift. “She’s doing it again. Taylor Swift is breaking all records with over 4 million units sold and has the most successful album debut of all time,” says the teaser video, which shows an excerpt from Swift’s clip “The Fate of Ophelia”.
Swift’s latest album “The Life of a Showgirl” has been setting new records since its release on October 3rd. The next day, 2.7 million units were sold in physical form.
Records and new milestones
The accompanying “Official Release Party of a Showgirl” reached number one in the US box office charts over the weekend. As of October 8, the album has sold 3.5 million units, surpassing Adele’s 2015 “25” record.
