The Spectacled Leader seems to be the most famous bird on the island. Dozens of photographers and people with binoculars gather in the middle of the dike. That goes on all day long. Cyclists then have to take it easy to maneuver through the crowd.

Forest ranger Thomas van der Es, together with his son, also comes to take a quick look. With a telescope he has a clear view of the eyeglass leader. “He is now very visible after floating on the Wadden Sea for months.”

The Dutch Birding bird weekend will be held next week. Van der Es hopes that the duck will also show itself. “But then we also look for other special species.”
