She is the undisputed atomweight world champion. But now Tina Rupprecht is drawing a line under her career. The reason: She is expecting a child.
A special chapter in German boxing is closing: World champion Tina Rupprecht has ended her career – and for a good reason. The 33-year-old is expecting a child and is saying goodbye to the ring.
At the awarding of the Bavarian Sports Prize in Munich, the Augsburg native declared: “My active boxing career is officially over because I am starting a new phase of my life.” A comeback as a mother is not planned for the time being, she explained.
In April, Rupprecht made history in Potsdam: In the unification fight for the world title, she defeated the previously undefeated Japanese Sumire Yamanaka on points. She became the “undisputed” atomweight champion (up to 46.3 kilograms). Rupprecht holds all four belts from the most important boxing associations WBO, WBA, WBC and IBF – the first German boxer ever to do so. No male German boxer had ever achieved this.
“I also have the feeling now: It’s perfect now,” said Rupprecht at the gala, where she received an award in the “Sports Moments for Eternity” category. “I’ve reached where I always wanted to be – even higher. I’m done.”
