The search for a coach at the troubled Scottish traditional club Glasgow Rangers continues. According to consistent reports, ex-coach Steven Gerrard, who was considered a promising candidate, has now canceled the Rangers after intensive discussions in London. The “BBC” wrote of a “shock” for the club, where they had already expected the 2021 champion coach to return to Ibrox Stadium. Among the personal details now being traded are a German and an Austrian football teacher.
Gerrard was with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia until January and has been without a club since then. He recently said in a podcast that he wanted the opportunity to play for titles at his next stop. It is not known why the talks about a comeback ultimately failed. What is clear, however, is that the club, which has slipped to eighth place in the Scottish Premiership, wants to present a new coach by next weekend following the dismissal of Russell Martin at the beginning of October.
Then the Rangers play at home against fourth-placed Dundee United (table). The chances are not bad for Danny Röhl, who left the English second division club Sheffield Wednesday in the summer. Discussions have also taken place with the 36-year-old in recent weeks. The Guardian newspaper already listed him as the next favorite for the post. According to Sky Sports, other names on the list of club bosses include the Austrian Ralph Hasenhüttl, known from the Bundesliga, and Kieran McKenna from Premier League promoted team Ipswich Town.
