Slashers, who secure and release containers, have stopped work out of dissatisfaction with the collective labor agreement proposal from their employers ILS and Matrans. As a result, large container ships cannot load and unload at terminals.

Other companies in the port sector went to court because they considered the consequences of the strike too serious. They reached an agreement with the organizing union FNV, under which lashers suspend the strike from Monday to Friday.

A spokesperson for the Port of Rotterdam Authority explains that the consequences of the strike will remain noticeable for some time. “The terminals have said that they will need until the end of October to clear everything if the situation continues. If the strikes continue again, it could last well into November.”
