Competing for the title in the men’s tournament will be the usual suspects, the world number one and the “Chingalan”. Federico Chingotto and Ale Galan are hunting for an Italian encore, after the triumph in the Rome Major: to fuel the hope of achieving this objective, they had to get rid of the Argentine duo Di Nenno-Augsburger, settled 7-6 6-4 in the evening session in a tight match, which was decided on a few points. A little easier, in the afternoon, was the victory of Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia: 6-4 6-3 over Lebron-Stupaczuk, in a match that will also be remembered for the long “Lobo” drama halfway through the first set, with outbursts of disastrous anger for having received a ball (completely involuntary, obviously) from Tapia on the ear. All decidedly excessive, but Lebron’s limit is nervousness, and we don’t discover it today.

Gemma Triay’s withdrawal also prevented her partner Delfi Brea and her opponents Claudia Fernandez and Bea Gonzalez from taking the field. Claudia will be able to defend the title won last year paired with Gemma: for her and Bea, her partner this season, the last obstacle is represented by Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, who appeared in excellent form in the match won 6-3 6-1 over Ustero-Araujo. Finals Sunday starts at 4.30pm: the women start, followed by the men.
