The police arrested an 18-year-old man from Emmen on Thursday for involvement in the serious assault of three men in the center of Emmen. It is the sixth and probably last arrest in this case.
With the sixth arrest, the police say they have all suspects in view. The 18-year-old man, who was arrested on Thursday, was arraigned on Friday and his pre-trial detention was conditionally suspended. The other suspects were also interrogated after their arrest, but are no longer in custody.
After the Uitfestival, things go wrong in the Hoofdstraat of Emmen on Saturday, September 13. Out of nowhere, three men are attacked and abused. One victim is 19 years old, the other two are 20 years old. Their faces are smashed, teeth are knocked out, a man is seen coming to the aid of the friends. The three have to go to the hospital for treatment.
Two days after the assault, the first suspect was arrested, a 17-year-old boy from the municipality of Emmen. In the following days, five more arrests followed, all young men from the same region. The six young men all remain suspects.
No new arrests are expected unless new information emerges in the investigation.
