Bastian Schweinsteiger was looking for the right term, and his colleague Esther Sedlaczek came to his aid. She later gave the ex-professional a saying.

Shortly before the start of the World Cup qualifier between Germany and Luxembourg, a strange situation arose between Bastian Schweinsteiger and Esther Sedlaczek. In his role as an expert, the 2014 world champion wanted to emphasize the importance of a well-coordinated team – but when he heard the term “automatism” he suddenly became unsure.

“When you play against big opponents, then this point is automatism,” he said, before asking: “Is that how you say it? Automatism?” Moderator Sedlaczek promptly helped out and replied: “Automatisms, yes, okay.” Schweinsteiger immediately thanked him with a wink: “Thank you, teacher, thank you very much!” Sedlaczek took it with humor and replied: “Very much.”

Later, “teacher” Sedlaczek took the opportunity to make a little comeback. When the two from the players’ tunnel presented their final impressions before kick-off, she joked about Schweinsteiger’s interest in the induction children: “Basti can no longer be caught, he is in lively exchange with the induction children. Would you like to join in?”

Schweinsteiger took the comment calmly and replied that the children “had really good tips for the game.”

In the end, the German national team clearly won 4-0 (2-0) against Luxembourg. The next German opponent is Northern Ireland on Monday in Belfast. Only the group winner qualifies directly for next year’s World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
