HIFK’s pain continues, and Friday’s 3-0 loss to Ilves did not change anything-on the contrary, it just deepened the gloomy crisis.

The jumbofinal at the Nokia Arena was like a refresher course on why the team is last in the standings: The discs bounced on the stage, the feeds escaped and nothing was achieved in the offensive game. Even the individual exchanges could not replace the collapse of the whole.

And then that Marleau’s trick. Vincent Marleau, the team’s gold helmet, warmed up the reel towards Ilves Dominik Pavlat, after the second round. A gross, stupid and useless act that tells all the essentials of the confusion and frustration of this group.

This resulted in a 10 -minute behavioral penalty, which ensured that the star was out of the third round. Not an ideal situation for a team that is on the chase and lacks more than enough stars on the ice.

Injuries make HIFK’s situation rugged: Sebastian Repo, Jori Lehterä, Bruno Jalasti, Iiro Pakarinen, Petteri Lindbohm… The list continues. There are already 12 absences.

Now, small patch times or a couple of training reinforcements are no longer enough. This requires big names that can really change the level of HIFK making, otherwise the club will play in the league qualifiers in the spring.

Sports Director Janne Pesonen should now show her nails. Promised reinforcements at the beginning of next week should be really big caliber players who can lift HIFK back to the playing field.

If not, and Pesonen did not invent the causes of injuries, it doesn’t help but take a shoe to the Persian and admit that the situation is completely unsustainable.

HIFK currently does not look like a SM league club, but a group that is fighting for survival, and this jumbofinal confirmed it. Now solutions are needed, no promises.
