In the summer of 2024, archaeological research at the Vroonhof site had to be halted due to too high a water level and additional research into possible soil contamination. The archaeologists from Ruben Willaert nv have been back to work since the end of September. The research is currently focusing on the rear part of the site, which until the mid-20th century was a low-lying area with meadows along the Vleterbeek. In this zone, archaeologists mainly investigate the evolution of the Vleterbeek valley and the adjacent canals.
Tomorrow the archaeologists will take the general public on a tour of the history of the city. There are guided tours at 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM.
