Defense may send young people a recruitment letter about voluntary military service: 500 places available in 2026

The House approved the bill on Thursday that should make it possible to send an ‘awareness letter’ to all seventeen-year-olds about a voluntary year of military service. The majority, supported by Open Vld and Vlaams Belang, voted in favor. The left-wing opposition, with PS, PVDA and Ecolo-Groen, was against.
