“Very grateful for trust”

After parting ways with Robert Lechleiter, interim coach Moritz Glasbrenner becomes the permanent solution at SSV Ulm 1846. The 35-year-old, who took over the Sparrows’ U19 team in the summer, signed a contract as head coach of the professionals on Wednesday until the end of the season. However, there is a catch to the commitment that will cost the people of Ulm a lot.

“The original plan called for a different solution, but Moritz has been absolutely convincing in the last two weeks with his work in terms of content and as a person and that is why we decided to make him head coach,” explained managing director Markus Thiele. Although various candidates were spoken to during the selection process, in the end Glasbrenner was able to convince with two wins, one draw and one defeat from four games.

However, Glasbrenner, for whom this is the first coaching position in the men’s division, does not have the pro license required for the 3rd league. Therefore, the people of Ulm are expecting fines to be paid to the German Football Association. In similar cases, the basic penalty was 10,000 euros, with an additional 3,500 euros for each additional game. The relegated second division team would have to pay just over 100,000 euros by the end of the season.

Glasbrenner approaches his job at SSV Ulm with humility

“We made this decision unanimously. This is about a shared conviction and we have 100 percent of that with Moritz. As a native of Ulm, he not only brings professional and human qualities, but also the necessary passion, which he has shown since he took the line. We wish Moritz only the best for his task,” said board member Thomas Oelmayer.

Glasbrenner added: “I am very grateful for the trust that the club has placed in us. I approach the task with humility, but also with great anticipation, as working with the team over the last two weeks has been great fun. I am absolutely convinced of the quality of the boys and am pleased that we can continue to work together, i.e. those responsible, the team, the coaching team and the fans.”
