The Eintracht Frankfurt footballers have achieved a very good starting position in the second round of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. The Hessians defeated the Czech representative 1. FC Slovacko 4-0 (2-0) in the first leg on Wednesday evening in front of their home crowd and are therefore close to reaching the round of 16.

Eintracht set the course for victory early on. Elisa Senß scored from the penalty spot in the third minute, after FC goalkeeper Anežka Zelenková had brought down the rushing Eintracht striker Nicole Anyomi in the penalty area. After 15 minutes, Laura Freigang increased the score to 2-0. In the second period, Nina Lührßen only made it 3-0 (80th), and an own goal from the Czechs finally made the final score 4-0 (83rd). The second leg will take place on October 15th.

More traditional format

The newly created competition will be played in a different, more traditional format than the premier class. There is no league phase; all rounds, including the final, take place in a knockout system with a return leg. After the round of 16 in November, the quarter-finals will be played in February.
