Defending champion SC Magdeburg remains in the Champions League without losing a point.
Coach Bennet Wiegert’s handball professionals won the Danish representative GOG Håndbold with 39:30 (18:16). Omar Ingi Magnusson was Magdeburg’s best shooter with eleven goals.
The first few minutes were characterized by numerous failed attempts on both sides: GOG hit the woodwork several times, Magdeburg was denied by the opposing goalkeeper, but still led (3:1/8th minute). Both teams then increased their hit rate, Magdeburg couldn’t pull away and GOG finally equalized (8:8/16th). The SCM had disadvantages in the goalkeeper duel, made a few technical errors and fell behind – but was able to correct that with a double strike at the break.
Game decided after a 7-0 run
GOG missed their first attacks after the break and Magdeburg doubled their lead (20:16/32nd). However, the Green-Reds were unable to break away any further; the Danes quickly regained their accuracy. However, the hosts sometimes played with the seventh outfield player and also conceded a goalkeeper goal from Magdeburg’s Matej Mandic (27:23/43.).
The SCM took advantage of saves from Mandic (eleven in total) and mistakes from the hosts to decide the game with a 7-0 run (35:24/52.). Afterwards, GOG managed to make some cosmetic results, but the SCM remains on the road to success.
