The two new arrivals at a press conference in Coverciano. The Bologna striker: “Insigne and Chiesa are the best in my role”. The Aosta Valley player from Fiorentina: “Cruyff is an absolute model. But I studied Pirlo”
Young debutants, yes, but with a past of experiences that forged and squeezed them before rewarding them with the big opportunity: Niccolò Cambiaghi and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia are two boys from 2000 who reached the national team through the patience of small steps. The first grew up in the Atalanta youth sector, the second in the Juventus youth sector. For different reasons the two clubs did not focus on them, but exploited their growth to record good capital gains: 10 million for the first, almost 5 for the second. Now Cambiaghi is enjoying himself in Bologna, while Nicolussi Caviglia has embraced the Fiorentina project. Both seem to have found their place in the world, without regrets, even if they evaluate the valorization system in which they were placed differently. Cambiaghi claims: “At the time of Atalanta I wasn’t ready, so it’s logical that I had to gain experience through some loans in smaller teams. That’s how it went and I’m fine with it, because every season has enriched me in some way.” Nicolussi Caviglia, on the other hand, respects the choices but… “I believe that young people should be waited for. If the talent is there, sooner or later it will emerge.”
the dream
—
The arrival in Coverciano, in some ways sudden, is a reward for the sacrifices of many years. Niccolò doesn’t look too far ahead: “Going to the World Cup would be a dream, but already being here repays me for the work I’ve done. Even last year, when I was affected by a serious injury. My coach, an Italian, was important, who waited for me and always trusted me. I consider these days as a starting point.” Hans, on the other hand, remembers the words of coach Gattuso and responds with an ambitious smile: “If he was curious to meet me, I will put in the will to convince him that he was right to bet on me. I will try to show my characteristics, I am a midfielder who loves to play vertically. It is an enormous pride to be here, also because it doesn’t happen to many Aosta Valley people to make it to the blue team. As a cinema enthusiast, my story is reminiscent that of 2001, A Space Odyssey: in a life there are many periods, some even hard, but we always move forward.”
models
—
In their first press conference in Coverciano, they talk about their footballing examples. Cambiaghi says he greatly admires “Insigne and Chiesa, who I consider to be among the best interpreters of my role”. Nicolussi Caviglia delves further: “The absolute model is Cruyff, because he invented revolutionary football. Among the Italians, however, I studied Pirlo a lot, who was one of the strongest playmakers ever. He too gave something different that changed football.”
