“I bought this car seventeen years ago. We had just married and we had a new house, with

If you lifted the floor covering, you looked outside like that, it was so bad. We immediately closed a deal and then they came to bring him. In a weekend I built the carport where the car was placed. He stood there for two and a half years, everything really had to be done.

From sheet metal to suspension

The entire car has been apart, from sheet metal to suspension. The engine itself came from America, which was in principle complete. I did transfer some parts here and there and bought new. With five men we took it out, refurbished and hung in one weekend.

I was able to use his bridge with my buddy, Garage Blokland Cars & Bikes. This is how we help each other, here and there. For the rest I did everything myself. The welding and sheet metal too. It is really a bit of a hobby that got out of hand. People from the neighborhood even came to see occasionally. They wondered what this should be. But hey, after those two and a half years it drove!

Sweaty hands behind the wheel

He did not yet have a Dutch license plate, I replaced or refurbished almost everything to get it approved at the RDW. The first time I went to ride it, on my way to the inspection, was very exciting. I sat behind the wheel with sweaty hands. While it wasn’t even such a very long ride. Fortunately he came through. From the man at the RDW I had to kill one more cable that didn’t work well, otherwise it was just good.

I think the most special ride I have made so far is with our whole family. Such a car is a bit part of the family, the children grew up with it. Furthermore, I will of course go to meetings and we make small trips. The nice thing about this car is that you always have a claim. Thumbs always go up, you see people laughing or children who look out for their eyes.

‘Thumbs are always going up, you see people laughing or children who look out their eyes’

Every year I do something about the car. Last year it was the inner lining, for which I added disc brakes, among other things. There will be a new hood with a scoop. On the inside of the hood I have now made a work of art. If a new hood comes on, there must also be a new artwork. Then you get a ‘Restomod’, a restored car that is not entirely original.

“It must be completely perfect”

The engine has been overhauled, giving the car much more power than original. A new rear axle also has to be done. This year it is actually the turn of the spraying. But that will take some time. I work as an airbrsper, so I really see everything. It must be completely perfect.

The Ford Mustang has always been my dream car. Why? Yes, that nose! The looks, that sound, it’s an American. Such a V8 engine, does that want every child? And then there is now also an absurd amount of power in it. I was looked at in the beginning. Really chats went around, because how could I pay such a car? But I did everything myself. That saves a lot of money. “
