The father of a world champion is supposed to get the Greifswalder SC back on track. Previously, he worked as a coach for the regional league.
The Greifswald FC reacted to the sporting descent in the Regionalliga Nordost and presented an interim solution: Roland Kroos returns to the fourth division. The 65-year-old, father of former professionals Toni and Felix Kroos, takes over the position of the sporting director until the winter break.
By February 2023, Kroos had already worked as a coach in Greifswald, but had to settle the office for health reasons. In the meantime he is able to take responsibility again. “I have observed very closely for the past few weeks and now want to actively help that we can find our way back on track,” he said.
After eleven match days, Greifswald is only 15th and is therefore deep in the table cellar in the Regionalliga Northeast. The club management hopes to be able to set new impulses through the temporary return of Kroos. At the same time, the position of the sporting director is sought for a permanent line -up.
The association relies on Kroos’ experience and knowledge of the environment. “After intensive discussions with Roland Kroos, we are convinced that he will continue with his great experience and professional competence,” said GFC Managing Director Daniel Gutmann. How long Kroos’ commitment continues depends on the development of the coming weeks.
