The Ulm basketball players won their home game in the Eurocup. Ulm won against Panionios Athens with 103: 96.
With the 103: 96 (28:22, 24:25, 25:24, 26:25) victory on the second matchday, the basketball players from Ratiopharm Ulm first sat down at the top of the Eurocup group B. in the first quarter, the Ulm quickly showed the game route of the game. After just a few minutes, Ulm was 6-0 in the lead and continued to expand it in the following minutes. In the middle of the quarter, Ulm already led 15: 4 after a threesome from Nelson Weidemann. Athens managed to shorten the gap at the end of the round, but the Ulm stayed in front with 28:22.
In the second quarter, the game turned completely. With six quick points, the Athenians managed to equalize to 28:28 and shortly afterwards even took the lead 31:30 – only now Ulm seemed to be found in the game. As a result, a balanced game with a slight advantages for the Ulm home side developed. So the teams went into the cabins with 52:47 for Ulm.
Athens comes back
Even after the half -time break, Ulm remained the better team. The Swabians gradually expanded the five-point lead, but Panionios Athens came closer again shortly before the end of the fourth siren, but without Ulm to cause too much difficulties. So the game was 77:71 for Ulm. The final quarter was then exciting again. The guests from Greece did not give up and even came to one point around five minutes before the end of the game (85:84).
Nevertheless, the hosts managed to save the narrow lead over time. In the end, Ulm deservedly won with 103: 96. The best throwers on the part of the Ulm were Christian Sengfelder and Christopher Ledlum with 20 points each. The next Eurocup opponent for Ratiopharm Ulm is the Lithuanian club Lietkabelis Panvezys on October 15th.
Heidelberg is subject to the Champions League
However, the away appearance of the MLP Academics Heidelberg at the Greek representative ASP Promitheas in the basketball Champions League was less successful. Already after the first quarter, the Heidelberg ran behind a 19point deficit. A strong catch -up in the final quarter was no longer enough. In the end, Heidelberg lost 83:89 (13:32, 24:18, 19:24, 27:15).
