Game scene Hannover 96 against Eintracht Braunschweig

As of: October 7, 2025 1:24 p.m

In the last second division season, only a few visiting fans were allowed into the stadium for the Niedersachsensenderbys between Eintracht Braunschweig and Hannover 96. Before the next duel at the end of October, Eintracht has now agreed on measures with the police.

The Niedersachsensenderby between Eintracht Braunschweig and Hannover 96 is scheduled to take place in an almost full Eintracht stadium. In addition, unlike initially planned, there will be no personalized guest fan tickets.

Because Eintracht has significantly improved its security concept for the explosive second division duel on October 26th (1:30 p.m., in the NDR Livecenter), it is possible to waive this previously considered measure, according to a statement from the Braunschweig Police Department.

Police appeal to fans to “behave peacefully”

“I assume that the measures announced by the club will be implemented and appeal to all fans to behave peacefully in order to ensure a successful derby experience,” operations manager Uwe Lange is quoted in the statement.

Additional security measures in the stadium

Eintracht wants to significantly increase the number of qualified stewards in front of the guest area so that fewer police officers have to be deployed in this area. In addition, a special new net system around the away fan area will make it significantly more difficult to fire pyrotechnics towards the field and neighboring blocks.

In the past, there had been repeated riots and, above all, the setting off of pyrotechnics during games between the two Lower Saxony rivals. Last season, the number of guest fans allowed at both games was drastically reduced.

According to the GdP, more technology is needed for security. In Lower Saxony, the number of incidents in stadiums had recently fallen.

In response to a dpa request, the police said no sales restrictions were planned for the lot. The DFB plans to have a reduced guest fan contingent for high-risk games, so that the arena on Hamburger Straße will not be completely sold out.

However, the police made it clear that they reserved the right to take further action in the future if incidents occurred again. “If there are riots in the stadium despite these stricter security measures, further measures will have to be taken in the future. This can then range from personalized ticketing to the exclusion of away fans,” the statement says.

Eintracht Braunschweig fans protest against the exclusion of fans in the Lower Saxony Senderby.

Eintracht does not consider it feasible to only allow fans of arch-rival Hannover 96 in the Niedersachsensenderby into the stadium with strictly personalized tickets.

The misconduct of parts of its fan scene continues to cost Hannover 96 dearly. On Friday, the second division team was again sentenced to a heavy fine by the DFB sports court.
