Sharm El Scheich (dpa-Afx)-According to the participant circles, there is no real progress even after the second day of the hearing. The German press agency today learned from the environment of the talks without significant commitments. The situation is “unchanged compared to the first day” and Israel as well as the Hamas “insist on their positions”.
From the negotiation circles it means that Hamas demands guarantees that Israel will not continue his attacks after the release of hostages from Gaza. Hamas therefore calls for a complete end of the war before a possible exchange of hostages with Palestinian prisoners. The Israeli delegation has so far made no commitments to these questions, it said.
There were no official communications from Hamas or Israel, who indirectly negotiate with each other by representatives of the United States, Qatar and Egypt. The feared continuation of the attacks by Israel is one of Hamas’ greatest concerns in discussions about whether it will leave some or all of the remaining hostages out of their violence.
According to media reports, it is also controversial which Palestinian prisoners of Israel would have to release in return. Hamas demands the release of prominent figures such as Marwan Barghuti and Ahmed Saadat, as reported by the state-close Egyptian TV channel al-Kahira News. Israel rejects their release.
Barghuti from the management level of the Fatah movement is the most prominent Palestinian prisoner in Israel. In 2004 he was sentenced to life imprisonment for five times murder. Saadat is the general secretary of the radical folk front for the liberation of Palestine (PflP). He was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2008.
The talks are to be continued on Wednesday – then according to the negotiation circles, also with the participation of the US specialist Steve Witkoff. This has been in Sharm El Scheich since Monday. With him the chances could increase that Israel will make a little more concessions in controversial points ./jot/dp/nas
