More and more schools are experimenting with a classroom dog, such as Futura in Geluwe. There, class dog Lou frolicks around happily. But they encounter practical questions about safety, allergies, parental involvement and training. Werbrouck therefore proposes that the Ministers of Education and Animal Welfare have a brochure drawn up with clear rules, tips and good examples.

“Schools now have to figure everything out themselves,” it sounds. “A small effort by the government can really make a difference here – for the schools, and for the well-being of dogs and children.”
