The lower maximum speed now applies on a piece of road only 400 meters: between the roundabout on the Elzenlaan and the intersection with the Paulineweg. Alderman of Traffic Ernest Briët himself moved the post and unveiled the new traffic sign yesterday.

According to him, it was logical that it was the turn of this piece. “The situation was actually confusing here, because the IWB indicates: you drive too fast, while you were still allowed to do 50,” he says to Mediapartner Streekstad Centraal.

Yet there were no complaints from local residents about passing traffic or other unsafe situations. According to him, reducing the maximum speed is more anticipatory.

More roads in Bergen tackled

This first measure is just the start of the mobility plan in the municipality of Bergen that will be rolled out in the next ten years. “This is the start of a revolutionary change in the municipality of Bergen,” says the alderman.

The purpose of the plan is to increase safety and accessibility. That is why the maximum speed on all roads within the built -up area is reduced without a separate cycle path to 30 kilometers per hour. “Road users know as soon as cyclists cycle on the road: I can do 30 here.”
