For the first time since 2003, THSV Eisenach wins against VfL Gummersbach. The Thuringian laid the basis for success in a strong phase shortly after the break.
You have to leaf through the history books of the handball Bundesliga for a while to discover the last success of THSV Eisenach against VfL Gummersbach. In February 2003 you will find it, at that time the Thuringian won 29:28. Since then, there have only been defeats in the 15 duels with VfL in the first and second league. In this respect, it was almost a historical moment that fans experienced in the Werner-Aßmann-Halle on Sunday.
The THSV defeated the former series master VfL Gummersbach with 32:29 (15:15). The guests got off to a better start to the game and were ahead until the 20th minute. Many technical errors in VfL were striking in this phase. So Eisenach managed to stay tuned without goalkeeper parades. After the first parade of Silvio Heinevetter, the Thuringians then took the lead for the first time. But just a few moments later, the guests were back in the front. With a free throw after the final siren, which Heinevetter defused, the half ended at 15:15.
Gummersbach repeatedly presented the defense of the Eisenacher with problems.
Eisenacher Sturmlauf shocked Gummersbach
After the change of sides, the THSV then set the foundation for success and overrun VfL. Matija Spikic, now in the Eisenacher Tor, showed some parades right from the start. The hosts presented themselves very consistently at their speed. The time out was characteristic that guest coach Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson took in this phase. He greeted his men with biting irony: “This is exactly what we discussed at half -time. That we quickly give Eisenach the ball and let them throw a lot of goals.”
After that, his men no longer acted as helpless, but the momentum stayed with the THSV. Shortly afterwards, a double outnumber due to an exchange error survived. When THSV captain Peter Walz put 31:27 on 31:27 almost two minutes before the end of the game, the game was decided.
Felix Aellen was the best thrower with nine goals, Stephan Seitz and Vincent Büchner each get four goals. For the Gummersbacher, Miro Schluroff scored with nine goals and Ellidi Snaer Vidarsson with five most goals. It was the third success of the current season for the Eisenacher. And certainly one who was not necessarily planned not only because of the history.
