St. Pauli’s Blessin struggled with an early goal – and short stop time

Sankt-Pauli coach Alexander Blessin was annoyed by the Sportschau microphone that his team got an early, “stupid goal”, as in the games before, this was ultimately decisive.

At the press conference afterwards, Blessin also opened the topic of injury time. “In terms of feeling, there could have been two or three minutes more” When the four minutes of the fourth officer, said Blessin. When measuring the stoppage time, there is no uniform regulation.

In the Bremern, defense chief Marco Friedl spoke of one in the sports show interview of one “dirty victory”. Coach Horst Steffen was relieved that his team could achieve something countable after two clear defeats without his own goal: “We defended it brilliantly and didn’t allow anything. That did well according to the results of the past few weeks.”

Mbangula ensures Bremen dream start

Werder caught a dream start, the first penalty area rang: the cross from Justin Njinmah caught Pauli’s defense in the back, Mbangula completed with a considered, placed flat shot into the far corner. The Bremeners, most recently twice without their own hits, were finally allowed to cheer again.

St. Pauli was challenged after the early deficit – the guests reinforced the attack efforts, had more possession of the ball, but had little to do against an attentive, well -organized Bremen defensive. It only became dangerous shortly before the break: Martijn Kaars slipped with the long leg shortly before the Bremen box, just over a flank. The second ball landed at Arkadiusz Pyrka, who immediately pulled out but just missed the right crossbar.

St. Pauli with more game shares, but too imprecise on the offensive

In the Bremern, Felix Agu had to get off the pitch after a collapse in the running duel with Kaars before the break. St. Pauli continued to strive, but too imprecise in the last third: Kaars got the ball on the right wing in a promising position, but Werder keeper Karl Hein could easily fishing the flank on the Mathias Pereira position lurking in the middle (52.).

The guests continued to have more game shares, but Werder did not allow anything and lurked on opportunities to switch them quickly after ball conquests. Marco Friedl found substituted Marco Grüll with a pass through half a field, the right winger pulled inside, but his shot from a promising position was blocked (62.).

Exciting game until the final minutes

St. Pauli, successfully successful in the final quarter of an hour before, tried to keep the pressure high. The Hamburgers almost always came across the right side, finally a cross reached a teammate in the center, but Kaars was no longer able to press the header on the goal (76.).

The final phase remained exciting: Patrice Covic had the preliminary decision on his foot during a strong Bremen counterattack, but could not overcome keeper Nikola Vasilj free -standing. On the opposite side, Connor Metcalfe, also substituted, had the best chance to equalize, his shot rushed past the left post. In injury time, substitute Victor Boniface sloppily left the huge chance to 2-0 – this was no longer punished.
