The gossip magazine Privé by editor -in -chief Evert Santegoed generates a lot of publicity by getting the forbidden images on which we see Princess Alexia stepping into the car with singer Antoon. What the general public does not know is that there was a large bidding war behind the scenes: Story was also interested.
‘It’s a fabrication’
Last week, the Privé initially only dared to bring out the story behind the images-it is not until this week that the actual images are on the cover-and Story-Baas Guido den Plekker understands that. “Story does not recognize the media code and has never done so,” he says to the desk of Shownieuws.
He continues: “I think journalists who don’t place it at all … I honestly don’t understand Evert, because he has always had guts, but then place it on your cover! You still let your ears hang back to such a media code. It doesn’t exist! It is a fabrication of Willem-Alexander!”
Hefty amounts
Guido would have put the images directly on the Story cover. “We were also offered this video two weeks ago. That eventually became a sort of auction: the one who offered the most if he had. That ended up with Privé, fine. Those are big amounts.”
The Story also had Princess Amalia on the cover in December 2021. “Then she was with a boyfriend whom we understood was her first love, that German boy. She was on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York and there a student took a photo and offered it to us. We also placed that photo right away.”
No steps
In the end, no steps followed, says Guido. “I know that even people were sitting at the table here, from:” Story is being destroyed by the RVD and the royal family. ” Never happened!
And so the Story boss sent back an answer. “It was said,” If you don’t apologize for that, then you can’t get to the photo moment. ” We do not recognize the media code, they know that too.
“To court!”
Story would always have it arrived at a lawsuit, says Guido. “We don’t acknowledge the media code, we post what we want to post and I also said,” If the royal couple disagree, they will go to court. ” But they don’t do that, and they will not do that in this case, and they certainly didn’t do that with us. “
Why not? “Because the fear at the royal family is: if they lose the business … If you stand at the busiest tourist location of New York with your boyfriend, you can’t complain that you don’t want to let things like this.”
Fair Deal
Is it disappointing that they did not get the princess Alexia images in the end? “It’s just a fair deal. We had a certain amount left. For a magazine like Private and also for Story, such a cover is quite important.”
What amounts are it? He doesn’t want to say that. “No, then you shelter precedents.”
He does not want to reveal his own maximum: “No, that won’t be you.”
Best -selling
Has Story just been a bit too stingy? “No, certainly not. It has a certain value for us and if someone asks too much, then that value is no longer so relevant to us.”
He concludes: “By the way, we are competitors, private and story, but we are in the store together with a cellovaantje and that is the best -selling package in the Netherlands!”
