The Public Prosecution Service (OM) appeals in the case of 14-year-old Esmee who was driven to death. The girl from Sint Anthonis came under the wheels of the garbage truck of Lidwina S. Last year The court recently sentenced her to a year in prison. The OM finds this imprisonment too light and also wants TBS for the driver.
Lidwina S. rode the 14-year-old Esmee from Sint Anthonis on December 19, 2024. The girl was on the way to school on that dark morning just before Christmas. The garbage driver from Nijmegen, overlooked her when she wanted to turn off a smaller country road and dragged the girl.
She ended up between the wheels and the garbage truck drove over her. S. didn’t notice it and drove through, but was arrested a little further. The girl died at the scene of the accident. Later it turned out that Lidwina had used speed and caused the accident under the influence of drugs.
One year in jail
The court ruled in the case last month. Lidwina S. (41) has to go to jail for a year and get a year in prison for a year. S. did not pay attention for a long time, while she was driving in a large garbage truck and she had also used speed. In addition to the prison sentence, she has lost her driver’s license for five years. During the session on 22 September, Lidwina was acquitted by the court before leaving the place of the accident and no TBS with a condition was imposed. The Public Prosecution Service does not agree with this.
No trust
Esmee’s parents find the punishment that the Court of S. also imposed too low. “A punishment is never high enough,” says Esmee’s mother. “I had hoped for a longer punishment, because we have lifelong,” she said on the day of the court’s decision. Both parents do not trust that Lidwina will come on the right path due to her punishment and treatment. “I have a hard head in that,” says Esmee’s father immediately.
