The majority of participants in the investigation notice that crimes are being performed increasingly refined, according to the annual crime report for the construction sector of security company Bauwatch. According to them, the perpetrators are usually whole or half professional criminals.
According to the respondents, the techniques that are used include breaking into security systems (28%), the use of drones for exploration (11%) and even AI-controlled fraud (25%). “This shift makes it clear that traditional security measures are less and less effective,” said Stefan Witte of Bauwatch.
According to the company, the so -called critical infrastructure, such as power plants, data towers and water facilities, even more often has to do with criminals. With these less well -secured objects, more than a quarter has to do with theft every month.

“Within the critical infrastructure, this is often about professional operations where fuel, copper, cables and even vehicles are systematically stamped. In addition, it appears that 95% of the respondents were once offered stolen material, almost half of which even experiences this regularly,” the researchers conclude.
In four in ten cases, criminals receive help from employees or forces hired, the employees say to the study.
In the fight against crime in construction and with critical infrastructure, in addition to fences and security staff, AI, drones, trackers and access control are increasingly being used.
Copper (49%) and cables (37%) are among the most stolen materials on construction sites in our country. Those thefts sometimes also cause that projects come to a halt or that connections are damaged. Other popular targets are small tools (53%) and fuel (21%).
