The first duel between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in women’s football was a clear thing – but anything but a humiliation. The permanent master of the past three years ultimately moved into the round of 16 confidently – even if BVB showed a combative fantastic performance.

At the 2-0 (2: 0) of the FCB in the Red Earth stadium in Dortmund on Monday evening (29.09.2025), the third division team initially held out for just under half an hour. The Munich women felt 80 percent possession of the ball, but only got through decisively in the 27th minute.

Harder meets in the third attempt

After a series of great opportunities and several top parades by Dortmund goalkeeper Laura van der Laan, Pernille Harder finally managed the lead for the tower-high favorite: Alara Sehitler should have taken the lead, but scored freely in front of the goal van der Laan. The BVB goalkeeper was only able to clap the margin of Georgia Stanway, so that Harder transported the ball over the line from ten meters.

A good five minutes later, the game was almost decided. Harder pulled inwards from the right corner of the penalty area, turned around Yasu Wöhrn and chased the ball to 2-0 into the net. The guests could have increased significantly until the break, but Natalia Padilla-Bidas failed on the left post, Arianna Caruso set the ball very thinly next to the goal.

There were also two scenes in which the Bavarians were not wrongly called for, but there was no video evidence – and referee Anna -Lena Heidenreich saw no reason for a whistle.

BVB with much more possession of the ball – and suddenly two big chances

In the second round, however, the Dortmunders took off any shyness and suddenly played courageously forward. With a little more overview, the BVB almost succeeded after an hour, but Jasmin Jabbes tried it on his own after a flash of lightning instead of crossing. Jabbes’ conclusion from the right from a pointed angle was nevertheless dangerous, Bayern goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic just got his fingertips on the ball.

The 15,755 spectators in the Dortmund stadium then had the scream on the lips again in the 72nd minute – at least the BVB supporters among them. Sophie Vogel had prevailed on the left of the baseline, Ronja Leubner, produced in the center, an arch lamp with a head that would have fallen into the goal behind the disoriented Mahmutovic – but the only Katharina Naschenweng headed the ball from the line and prevented the connection.

Immediately reunited in the Bundesliga

Ultimately, the favorite prevailed without a goal, but the Dortmunders could be extremely proud of themselves. This evening in the “red earth” clearly showed that they are clearly too deep in the third division and that this duel may also exist in the highest division at the latest.
