The Kleine Black -Meeuw has crossed the Atlantic Ocean from the Caribbean. And he is immediately a popular guest: dozens of birdwatchers are ready to spot the bird species, from the port of Den Helder or from the ferry.
With the arrival of this seagull, the counter is now on the number of spotted small black -headed gulls in the Netherlands. “It’s a wandering,” Marc explains. “He rarely appears here, but due to a recent Caribbean storm it could be that the seagull has strayed and this way has come.”
Another kind
Black -headed gulls also live in the Netherlands, but these differ from the small black -headed gull. Yet that difference is not large, says Marc Plomp. “He only deviates at least from the Dutch Black -headed Gull.” The legs are slightly more pink and his gray fur is a fraction darker. “And he is a fraction smaller.”
According to Marc, De Meeuw flew a while behind a boat for a while, which again attracted a lot of attention. “People were wildly enthusiastic.”
Although the little black -headed gull likes to fly into groups, according to Marc it is not bad that he is alone here. “He still flies in a group, but then among other seagulls,” he explains. “That happens very often, so a small black -headed blackeuw can also fly in another group.”
