VfL Wolfsburg scored 22 times on the 5th matchday of the Bundesliga against RB Leipzig. But only the guests met. An early goal RB brought a 1-0 away win on Saturday (1-0).
Johan Bakayoko put the Leipziger in the lead in the eighth minute. In the 90th minute, Christoph Baumgartner had the decision on his foot, but put a penalty past the goal.
For RB, it was the fourth victory from the past four games after the 0: 6 slump at FC Bayern Munich. VfL Wolfsburg, on the other hand, has been winning for four games and collected the second bankruptcy in a row.
Leipzig cheered in the second attempt
Leipzig got off to a better start to the stroke and cheered for the first time after five minutes. Following a short corner, Romulo headed a cross from David Room from a short distance into the goal. However, the goal did not count, because the flankener room had previously been stuffed into the Wolfsburg offside trap.
Only three minutes later the Leipziger cheered again and this time the goal counted too. Romulo conquered the ball in midfield and served Bakayoko. The Belgian prevailed against several opponents and hit the corner at the bottom right (8th).
Opportunities for Wolfsburg and Leipzig
As a result, SC developed a very lively game with chances on both sides. Kilian Fischer (16th) and Maximilian Arnold (20th) had the best Wolfsburg chances. On the other hand, Bakayoko failed to VfL goalkeeper Kamil Grabara (25th). After 34 minutes, a deflected shot from Bakayoko rushed past the goal.
So RB went into the break with a narrow tour. And again it was Bakayoko who almost put it to 2-0. His shot from 15 meters clapped the crossbar (48th).
Leipzig’s room shoots just over it
Wolfsburg acted much more gripier after the break and now put the Leipzig defense under more pressure. The better chances continued RB. In the 60th minute, room only barely set a free kick from a central position.
Overall, the rapid game remained, which it was in the first half. After 70 minutes, VfL coach Paul Simonis brought fresh forces again and, among other things, newcomer Christian Eriksen. But it was Dzenan Pejcinovic who only put the ball on the crossbar from a short distance (74.). Just two minutes later, Eriksen almost had his moment, but the Dane did not get the ball properly after Mohamed Amoura’s passport (76.).
Wolfsburg without luck in the end
Wolfsburg was now running, but remained lucky in the end. In the 83rd minute, substitute Adam Daghim came to the header quite freely, but clearly missed the goal. It was the 22nd shot of the “wolves” in this game.

In the 90th minute, RB Leipzig had the chance to put the lid on it. Joakim Maehle had pushed Bakayoko to the ground in the penalty area. According to the pictures, referee Robin Braun decided on a penalty. Baumgartner competed, but set the ball clearly next to the goal.
But that should no longer be avoided. Even in the six -minute injury time, VfL Wolfsburg did not accommodate the ball in the Leipzig goal, so that RB ultimately drove home with three points.
