Borussia Dortmund remains the first pursuer of leader Bayern Munich even after the 5th matchday of the Bundesliga. At 1. FSV Mainz 05, BVB showed a ripe performance in the 2: 0 (2: 0) away win and achieved vision gates.
On Saturday afternoon, Daniel Svensson (27th minute of the game) and Karim Adeyemi (40th) ensured the Dortmund success. Dortmund had to get by without Serhou Guirassy (thigh problems), but also convinced with great efficiency without the goal scorer. Mainz, in turn, bit its teeth on the stable BVB defensive and weakened itself in the second round: goalkeeper Robin Zentner saw red (67th) because of an emergency brake.
Dortmund’s jubilee Kovac lifts Defensive performance out
Dortmund drove the fourth victory in the fifth game through the away win and underpinned the good start of the season. “It was very confident, we played a very good away game“, said Dortmund coach Niko Kovac at the sports show microphone. Kovac, for whom the game in Mainz was his 200th Bundesliga game, was particularly pleased about the good defensive performance of his eleven:”We have the quality to score the gates at the front – we have to minimize the goals. We have a very good grip on the moment at the moment. “
Mainz, on the other hand, remains with only four points in the second half of the table. “Dortmund was better today than we were. We did not defend the two switching situations at the gates“Mainz coach Bo Henriksen commented on the defeat.
Dortmund’s successor Brandt delivers two assists
Both teams presented themselves to each other at the beginning, especially the defensive series were concentrated, so that there were hardly any remarkable offensive actions in the initial phase. Symptomatic for the highlight poverty was a curious scene around Dortmund’s goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who had the ball on the foot for almost 30 seconds without being attacked by the Mainz. For his part, however, the Swiss showed no ambitions to initiate a constructive game structure, which is why the game is completely standing still for seconds.
It took until the 26th minute before it got dangerous: the Mainz played over Nadiem Amiri and Armindo Sieb into the penalty area, where Paul Nebel pretended to the ball. The BVB then struck in direct return. Dortmund played out the counterattack, the ball ended up in the penalty area at Brandt, who had replaced Guirassy in the starting eleven, over Adeyemi and Beier. Brandt kept the overview and played a precise pass on the long post, where Svensson had run along and converted safely.
The first good offensive campaign of the Dortmund took the lead, the second resulted in 2-0: BVB quickly countered, Adeyemi drove the ball forward with a lot of speed. At the sixteenth meter room, the 23 -year -old played a double pass with Brandt and closed flat and placed in the left corner by direct acceptance – the second asteine was out of Dortmund counterattack.
Mainz too harmless, hundredweight is adeyemi around
In the second round, Mainz was challenged, which was still in its own stadium without a goal of the season. Central defender Andreas Hanche-Olsen screwed up after a corner kick and forced Kobel to a parade (56th). However, the Rheinhessen did not achieve much more against the BVB defensive around captain Nico Schlotterbeck.

Instead, BVB provided the next highlight. Kobel sent ADEYEMI with an optimal discount, again no Mainz Adeyemis could be paced. Zentner left his goal and wanted to clarify, but missed the timing and clearly hit Adeyemi on the foot – the red card was the logical consequence. “He was the last man, I think it’s a red card“, said Adeymi after the game about Zentner’s foul – and found self -critical words to his own performance despite his accents:”It wasn’t the best game from me personally. I could have had more actions, I could offer more. It wasn’t that good.“

Brandt misses the crowning
The following free kick brought nothing to the BVB, but the game was still decided. Even at the same number, Mainz had hardly been able to find out any chances of scoring. In the majority, Dortmund now had less difficulties to curb the hosts’ offensive efforts. Brandt could have crowned his strong performance in added time, but Mainz replacement goalkeeper Lasse Rieß parried the massive shot heavily.
In the end, the Kovac team was able to look forward to the cross-season 13th Bundesliga game in a row without defeat and the fourth game in a row without conceding a goal.
