The Spanish world and European champion Sergio Busquets ends his career at the end of the season. The 37-year-old will not extend his contract with Inter Miami, as the football professional announced on Instagram.
“Many thanks to everyone and football for everything. You will always be part of this beautiful story”wrote Busquets on a farewell video with pictures of his career. The defensive midfielder especially thanked his heart club.

At the end of the 2025 season in the Major League Soccer (MLS), it should be over. Busquets have been active in the USA alongside its former Barcelona player Lionel Messi since 2023. Busquets is one of the most successful and formative midfielder in his generation. In 2005 he came to the FC Barcelona offspring before quickly becoming a fixture with his elegant game under coach Pep Guardiola. It belongs to the golden generation of the Catalans around Messi, Xavi and Andrés Iniesta.

He played a total of 722 competitive games for the Catalans and won the Champions League and the Club World Cup three times as well as nine Spanish championships and seven cup wins. With Spain he became world champion in 2010 and European champion in 2012.
After 18 years he left Barça in the summer of 2023 and moved to the Major League Soccer in the USA. The playoffs will now be the last games of his professional career. “Time goes by, but your quality is imperishable.
