The World Cup will take place in the USA in the coming year. The planning is in full swing. But Donald Trump wants to stay spontaneously. A calculation?

18 teams have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. In addition to the three hosts, Argentina, Japan and Morocco are sure to be there. The twelve World Cup groups are drawn in December, then the game plan including the venues is also determined.

But the selection of the venues has now questioned US President Donald Trump. He assumes that the World Cup can take place under safe conditions, Trump explained in a press round in the Oval Office. With regard to the venue, however, he added, “but if I think it is not safe, we will move the games to another city.”

Because the World Cup games are also to be organized in cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle, which are considered strongholds of Trump’s democratic political opposition. A quarter -finals are to take place in Los Angeles, a round of 16 in Seattle. Trump has sharply criticized several democratically ruled cities in the past and has sent the national guard to Washington, Los Angeles and Chicago in the past few months.

Trump also has an eye on the 2028 Olympic Games, which is to take place in Los Angeles. “If we believe that a city is even dangerous for the World Cup or the Olympic Games – but especially for the World Cup, because it is played in so many cities – we will not allow that,” he said.

Trump had declared himself the chairman of a Taskforce of the White House for the World Cup and was also present at the Club World Cup in summer, where he spent a lot of time with “his friend” Gianni Infantino. Trump expressed his “full and unrestricted” trust in the FIFA president of being able to contribute to a successful tournament.
