The top 10 of the two charts, male and female, let another service go to 240 per hour to win their match against tennis institutions. And in the dispute, the four Slam tournaments have also arrogantly entered. History of a protest that has continued for months, that of the strongest players in the world who do not consider the slice of cake sufficient to them sufficient. But not only that: in the letter sent to the majors on 30 July and made public only now we are also talking about anything else. Basically pensions and maternity, of growth of the Prize Money by 2030, of creating a council of the Grand Slam players. Another chapter of the long dispute between tennis players and institutions.

What players ask for

Who signed the letter? All the players present in the top 10 ATP and WTA, except Novak Djokovic who had been the promoter of the PTPA report at the beginning of the season against the institutions and was in the first letter to the Slam, last March, but which this time does not appear among the protagonists. There are among others, however, Sinner, Alcaraz and Musetti. In the previous communication to the majors, signed by tennis players in the spring, there was mainly about the substantial increase in the prize pool following the simplest principle of the game: “Without us, there is no show”. This time, however, the discussion issues have expanded: the tennis players took on the former CEO of WTA Larry Scott, to whom they entrusted a lobbyist’s task to the Slam. Scott met with players the representatives of the four major tournaments with players: he asked everyone to respond to the points pulled at stake in the letter of July 30th. That is: contribution to the welfare of tennis players to a pension fund, health care and maternity. Secondly: increase the prize money in proportion to the growth of the revenue of each tournament, with an increase from 16% to 22% requested by 2030, in line with the events of NFL, MLB and NBA. And finally to accept to create a council of the Grand Slam players, with continuous consultations on issues that directly concern tennis players such as the extension of the 15 -day major tournaments.

the answer

From the Slam, then, the answer to the letter arrived. The Us Tennis Academy, in a document dated August 18, expressed itself thus through CEO Brian Vahaly and the CEO of professional tennis Usta Stacey Allaster: “We have always been willing to increase the compensation for players, as evidenced by the growth of 57% of the prize pool of the US Open in the last five years. The significant increase in fees at 90 million dollars of 2025 day at the singular tournament of the main scoreboard and the consequent contribution of tennis players “. It is no coincidence that Alcaraz and Sabalenka, samples of the singular tournaments, received a 5 million record check. From the US Open they also say that they “want to reiterate our commitment to involve us in direct, honest and transparent discussions with players to build a more solid future for tennis, including a healthier calendar, better advice with players and greater financial protection for everyone”.

in the sights of the PTPA

In short, the comparison with the Tournaments of the Grand Slam lights up definitively. Indeed, it is enriched with an additional episode: in the action moved by the PTPA (Pro Tennis Players Association, led by Djokovic and PossSil) last March the target were all the institutions of the great tennis, except the four slams. Which have been added in the last few days. The PTPA explained it this week with a note: “It is a necessary step to ensure the responsibility of all the parties and accelerate the reform awaited for a long time in the entire tennis ecosystem”.
