Despite the change of coaches, the Turkish top club Fenerbahçe does not work. The new coach: an old acquaintance from the Bundesliga – who is now threatening to quickly end.
He is in office for just three weeks. His new team only looked after in four competitive games. And yet Domenico Tedesco could stand in front of the end at the Turkish top club Fenerbahçe – after such a short time.
The former coach of FC Schalke 04 (2017 to 2019) had only started the job in Istanbul in early September-star coach Jose Mourinho had to go previously after “Fener” missed the qualification for the Champions League.
Tedesco’s record since then: only a victory of four competitive games. In the Turkish Süper Lig, after a 1-0 in the first game against Trabzonspor (2: 2 against Alanyaspor, 1-1 at Kasimpasa)-and in the first game of the Europa League on Wednesday, a demoralizing 1: 3 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb. “The way we collect goals is unacceptable,” said Tedesco afterwards. And praised his eleven: “Although today’s defeat hurts, my team and I look at many different perspectives, not only the result. We checked the game better than in the previous games; we kept more on the ball today. We did not allow any counterattacks and lost little balls.”
But Tedesco’s tactics and constellations are already at the center of criticism. Against Zagreb, the 40-year-old offered the attacker Marco Asensio and right-back Nelson Semedo as a double-six in the midfield center-it didn’t work.
In addition: an important Tedesco advocate is suddenly no longer there. Because the long-time Fener President Ali Koç, who enforced both the separation of Mourinho and installed Tedesco, has not been in office since September 21-Koç Verlor in the presidential election against the new incumbent Sadettin Saran.
The large Turkish daily “Sabah” declared the next Fener league game on September 28 against Antalyaspor almost a final for Tedesco. “If the violent criticism lasts, the separation of Tedesco is before the international break and the handover of the team to Aykut Kocaman (ex-trainer, editor’s note) and Volkan Demirel (ex-goalkeeper, editor’s note) on the agenda,” writes the sheet. And the German term of the German on the Bosphorus would be over for less than a month.
